Province Director Jane Schiszik
Greetings ladies in the La Crosse Diocesan Council of Catholic Women! I would like to introduce myself and share the story of my journey as a Council of Catholic Woman.
My name is Jane Schiszik. My story starts in the 1980’s when I attended a Parish Council of Catholic Women’s meeting. The parish bulletins information about the activities these women did, piqued my curiosity. So, I checked out what this parish group of ladies was all about. That was the beginning of my journey – the more I learned about their activities on a local level, the more I wanted to be a part of the group.
This led me in the direction of the deanery and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. These groups of women widened my perspective of Council and how Council of Catholic Women’s activities impact more parishes and more women with programs of spirituality and service.
This led me to the awareness of the National Council of Catholic Women. I attended my first National Council of Catholic Women’s Convention in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1999. What a life changing experience! The National Council of Catholic Women, a unified group of likeminded Catholic Women and founded by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. A group of women, who are a witness to their faith and fulfill their Mission Statement of educating women in leadership, service, and spirituality.
So, if you are still wondering how I became the new Province Director for the Province of Milwaukee it was my love of Council, working with women from all Wisconsin and the United States and being willing to try new opportunities for service and leadership. Saying ‘yes’ to the possibilities of involvement with the Council of Catholic Women is life changing! I have served on all the levels of Council and have served in all officer and Commission positions except for finance. I look forward to serving as your Province Director of the Province of Milwaukee.
During my term of office, I hope to meet many of you and learn of your stories of Council. My prayer for all of you – is to say ‘yes’ to the opportunity when asked to attend a meeting, serve as an officer, or chair a committee or commission. It can be life changing!
